| Team Returns from Spring Trip |
Sat 03/12/05 |
|
The team returned from South Carolina on Friday after an extremely successful week of training. This was a day earlier than planned due to high winds moving into the area and the cancellation of the South Eastern Collegiate Sprints in which we had planned on racing. According to head coach, Donald Webber-Plank, "I was very pleased with the team's progress during the week, and look forward to seeing continued improvement in the coming weeks. The team and assistant coaches worked very hard to establish a strong base on the water for spring racing." With the cancellation of SERCS, our first regatta will be the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia on March 26th. Photos from the trip can be found here. |

| Rower Will Compete In Maccabiah Games |
Sun 03/20/05 |
|
Carnegie Mellon rower, Gary Feigenbaum (ECE/Pre-Med,'05), has been selected to the 2005 United States Maccabiah Rowing Team. The team will compete at the 17th World Maccabiah Games taking place this July in Israel.
CMU's Head Coach, Donald Webber Plank commented, "It is of high significance where a student-athlete directs vision toward the attainment of one's goals, competition and the inherent process, risk and dedication involved. But vision alone does not guarantee the lessons necessary to obtain individual and team success. With teamwork, perseverance and competitive action, Gary has worked hard in order to seek opportunities and earn his national selection. I am proud of Gary's continued leadership and excellence with his crew team here at Carnegie Mellon."

The team spent their Saturday 40 miles north of Pittsburgh at Lake Arthur racing at the second annual University Rowing Association Regatta. Highlights of the day included a photo finish in the Men's Varsity Eight with the University of Washington taking Gold, Carnegie Mellon taking Silver (.3 seconds behind) and the University of Rochester taking Bronze (.9 seconds behind Washington). Other notable performances included the Men's and Women's Lightweight Fours winning their respective events and the Heavyweight Women's Pairs placing first and second! Our novice team also did well with several fourth place finishes (in the Men's and Women's Fours and Men's Eight).
With the exception of cold weather and lots of rain, it was a great day of racing. We look forward to racing our peer schools again next year. For complete results, click here. |

| WV Governor's Cup |
Wed 04/27/05 |
|
The team competed at the WV Governor's Cup in Charleston, WV on April 23. The regatta was structured with heats and finals. CMU crews rowed well, advancing to the finals in nearly all boat categories. Unfortunately, severe weather resulted in the cancellation of the regatta. CMU Crew faired well, losing only 2 small tents. At least one non-CMU crew lost a shell after it became swamped and broke under the resulting force. There were some wet rowers, but no injuries. |

This year the Head of the Ohio (HOTO) banquet is being held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. It is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 1st, 2005, following the Regatta.
Guests are welcome! This includes parents, significant others, or children. We ask only that you purchase a ticket for each attendee. Tickets are $35 per person (checks payable to CMU Rowing Club).

Hello alumni, family, and friends of CMU Crew,
This past Saturday, October 1, marked the start of the fall 2005 racing season for Carnegie Mellon Crew. The Head of the Ohio Regatta took place on a beautiful Saturday; arguably one of the best in the history of the event.
The CMU novice team was given the opportunity to race at HOTO for the first time in team history, and they did so with fantastic results:
Men's Novice 4+ - 2nd Place
Women's Novice 4+ - 3rd Place
Men's Novice 8+ - 2nd Place
Notable results from the varsity team include:
Women's Open 8+ - Governor's Cup
Women's Open Pair - 2nd Place
Women's Lightweight 4+ - 3rd Place
CMU Crew alumni also raced a men's 8+, 4+, and a women's 4+.
The race was followed by the annual CMU Crew HOTO Banquet, where approximately 85 rowers, alumni, family and friends came together to celebrate the beginning of another year of racing. This year's banquet was held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, and featured memoirs from alumni Erin Breen, Danielle Little, and Neal Turbow.
CMU Crew will compete next at the Head of the Charles Regatta, http://www.hocr.org/ in Boston during the weekend of October 22-23. Four entries are expected: a men's open 4+, a novice men's 4+, and open and lightweight women's 4+. Anyone interested in attending the regatta or housing some rowers for the weekend is asked to contact alumni@tartancrew.org.
Finally, I would like to extend a collective thank-you from the team to all the alumni, parents, and friends of the team who came out to offer their support during HOTO. We couldn't have done it without you!
Sincerely,
-Jon McCune

about the same as the varsity in their respective events.

This year's annual Car-Du-Pitt regatta was held on Saturday Nov. 12. This regatta allows Novices from Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, and University of Pittsburgh, to face off against each other. This year Carnegie Mellon dominated with a final point total of 10, beating both Pitt and Duquesne. The Novice Women won in the women's eights event as well as both the A fours event and the B fours event. The novice men also won in the men's eights event. Despite the chill in the air and the ice on the dock, the event was a success with all novices enjoying their races in the otherwise beautiful weather.
Since this event signifies the end of the Fall 2005 season, I would like to take another chance to thank all of the alumni and parents who have helped out so much this season. We hope to have your continued support in the upcoming fall season.
Thank you,
Adam Suhy
