 Active Alumni! Fri 07/20/07

Many alumni have remained very active this summer! Here's the latest:

June 15

Lenny Lucas ('05) and Jon Mccune ('07) participated in the Frickin' Adventure Race at

Frick Park which included 1+ miles of kayaing on the Allegheny River, 8-10 miles

of mountain biking, 5-6 miles of trail running, and orienteering. Jon and Lenny

took 2nd in the Men's Event under the name Big Lead Pipes (they would).

Check out the event and the results:

June 29 and 30, July 1

Paul Harvin ('04), Georgia Bullen ('06), Darbi Roberts ('06) and Stefanie Sydlik

('07) competed in the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. Stef took

2nd in the Women's Intermediate Light Single. I am unsure as to the results of

the other three. You can find the results at:

http://www.boathouserow.org/rega07/idr07.html

July 15

Bram Whillock ('05) biked 206 miles in a race in Seattle. What race it was, I'm

not sure- but I heard it was awesome :)

July 16

Justin Samuels ('05), Lenny Lucas ('05), Jon McCune ('07), Paul Harvin ('04), and

Paul Raff ('04) competed in the Pittsburgh Triathlon which consisted of 1.5K swim,

40K bike, and 10K run. From what I hear, Justin kicked everyone's butt.

 Jon Milikowsky Mon 06/26/06

It is with great sadness that we inform you that last night (6/25/06) Jon Milikosky passed away. Due to his chemotherapy his immune system was compromised and was unable to fight an infection of necrotizing fasciitis, a fast growing bacteria.

Jon was extremely dedicated to the rowing club, as a rower and a board member. He has held the positions of Men's team captain, Vice-President, and President. In these positions he has been able to greatly influence the team in very positive ways. His impact on the team will never be forgotten.

Jon was a great athlete, student, and person. He will be missed.

A service will be held near his home in New Haven, Ct.

 Dad Vail 2006 Tue 05/16/06

All of our boats did a great job at this year's Dad Vail Regatta. While we didn't bring home any medals this year, there was some great rowing and some close ones. The Open Women's Four with Darbi Roberts (s), Georgia Bullen, Sarah Wilson, Maura Ferguson (b), and Emma Friedman (cox) raced in the finals and earned a fourth place finish. The Open Men's Pair with Adam Suhy (s) and Dave Rice (b) also raced in the final and earned a fourth place finish. The Novice Women's Four with Judith Vogel (s), Reva Street, Kristin Koslowski, Natalie Weir (b) and Peter Lynch (cox) hauled over 25 lbs of sand down the course to qualify for the semi-finals. The Lightweight Women's Four with Stefanie Sydlik (s), Sarah Crosskey, Cara Heller, Crystal Lee (b) and Elliot Beltzer (cox) also qualified for the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the Novice Women's Four nor the Lightweight Four encountered some stiff competition and did not make it to the finals. The Men's Open Four did not qualify for semi-finals after racing a great race against some tough crews.

I would like to thank all of the rowers for a great season. I look forward to rowing with all of the current novice next year, as they step up to the varsity team.

I would also like to thank all of the Alumni, Parents, and Friends of the Carnegie Mellon Crew Team. Without your support we would not be able to do any of the things we do. Your contributions to the team, whether they be monetary, food, or just showing up to cheer, are well appreciated. We hope to continue to receive your support in the years to come.

Thank you,

Adam Suhy

President CMURC
